Will AIG plan cost taxpayers money, or just sleep? (AP)

Shares of American International Group Inc. fell Tuesday as investors questioned whether the huge insurer would come up with more money to stay in business and avoid igniting even more global financial turmoil. AIG shares were down $1.96, or 41.2 percent, to $2.80 in early afternoon trading, rebounding from an intraday low of $1.25 but below the day's high of $4.57. They might now lose some sleep wondering whether the government’s $85 billion loan to American International Group was a wise investment.
